Mediation
In addition to the full range of family law legal services, the offices of Richard C. Klein, P.C. offers mediation services (also called Alternative Dispute Resolution).
Mediation involves a collaborative effort on the part of both spouses and is facilitated through a mediator to amicably resolve all legal issues pertaining to their divorce (e.g., Custody, Parenting Time, Asset Allocation, Child Support, etc.).
For some couples the benefits of mediation may be significant.
- In most cases, it is far less expensive than traditional divorce procedures.
- It reduces the level of conflict.
- In the vast majority of cases, divorce through mediation is faster.
- Both spouses have greater control of the process and solution to relevant issues.
- Mediation tends to be easier on any children that may be involved.
However, mediation is not for everyone. It is usually only effective when both parties can focus on the issues rather than their emotions; when both parties are on speaking terms and if both are willing to take responsibility for creating and honoring their separation agreement. Ideally there should also not be a significant power or financial imbalance in the marriage.
